Run

No, no, don’t let the title scare you. It’s the title of my book for Campnanowrimo in April. So you don’t need to be scared, I do. Well I’m really, really excited. And today I wanted to introduce to you to my main characters.

First there is Chrissandra “Chrissi” Crawford. She’s seventeen-years-old and the oldest of five children. She’s very small because of a disease she had when she was younger. Chrissi is a very strong Christian, but she made the mistake of falling into a world of drama and no real friendships. The story finds her tired of it all and ready to go home from her boarding school in England. She misses her family and is tired of how the school and her “friends” are bringing her down.

There’s Deaenna “DeeDee” Crawford, who is Chrissi’s younger sister. Deaenna is fourteen and just trying to get through high school. She has no long-term goals, except for maybe becoming exactly like Chrissi. Especially spirtitually. Chrissi is so far along in her walk with God and Deaenna is spiritually carnal. It’s frustrating.

Ross Tyler is the one person who might be able to help Chrissi get over her breakup with Ben, the man that she dated for two years. But his presence puts unspoken danger in Chrissi’s life. She knows it by the signs that show up at her house, that Ross’s presence is making her a target for something. But she can’t escape, and risk losing his friendship.

McKennah Cripe’s life is awful. When doing a tearfilled apology and confession to her new friend Chrissi she never imagined that the Crawford family would welcome her into their home with open arms. She loves them right away. Chrissi is the best friend she’s ever had. Deaenna and her fight like crazy but she’s just a kid. The little kids are adorable and tons of fun. But the family’s religion drives her nuts. Really, who could believe in a God? She makes fun of them at first, but slowly begins to realize that they might have something behind all of this.

I am very, very excited about this book! I have fallen in love with these characters! It’s going to be a fun one to write.

The Crawford family is big on usual names, which is something I thought I should mention. Here are the name’s of the kids. (The three youngest are dedicated to my siblings and Deaenna will be dedicated to somebody but I haven’t decided who yet.)

Chrissandra “Chrissi” Crawford- age 18
Deaenna (DEE-enna) “DeeDee” Crawford- age 14
Eli Austin Crawford- age nine (dedicated to my brother Zach)
Azure “ZuZu” Anne Crawford- age seven (dedicated to Bethany Anne, my sister)
Joab Michael Crawford- age three (dedicated to Joshee Michael)

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while…so…..

I’ve been wanting to give you a list of my ten favorite Christian songs, books, websites, and movies. Because I know that these can be hard things to find sometimes. So here you go!

Songs:

1.) Need you Now-Plumb (Awesome song, one of my favorites)
2.) Here I am to Worship- by various artists (I might learn to play the chords to this song in piano, sometime in the somewhat new future
3.)Born for This- Mandisa (If you don’t know the story behind this you might find it as a non-Christian song, but it’s about Esther, it’s definitely one of my favorite songs!)
4.) Captivate Us- Watermark (this is beautiful.I would suggest it to any Christian!)
5.)Have Your Way- Britt Nicole (I listen to this song when I’m sad a lot.)
6.)I’m with you (Ruth and Naomi)-Nichole Nordeman and Amy Grant (about Ruth and Naomi)
7.) Our God- Chris Tomlin
8.) The Sun is Rising- Britt Nicole
9.) Wait for Me-Rebecca St. James (a song about waiting for your husband)
10.) What do I know of holy-Addison Road

Books:

1.) The O’Malley series- Dee Henderson (best series ever in my opinion)
2.) Charmed Life Series- Jenny B. Jones (these aren’t extremely religous, but they talk about God a bit; the books are mysteries and hilarious)
3.) Katie Parker Production series- Jenny B.Jones
4.) Christy Miller Series- Robin Jones Gunn (don’t read this unless you are twelve and older. They aren’t bad, but they’re more aimed for teens
5.) Circle C. Ranch Series- Susan K. Marlow (they might be young for some people, but they’re still good!)
6.) Esther in the Bible- not sure who wrote it, but of course inspired by God (this book is an easy, entertaining, suspensful read.)
7.) Ruth from the Bible
8.) Set Apart Femininity- Leslie Ludy (Life changing; don’t read it unless you are a teenager. It’s appropriate, but for teens, and hits hard topics bluntly)
9.) Miracles- Karen Kingsbury (Will make you shiver,so amazing!)
10.) Rachel’s Tears (about Rachel Scott the martyr)

Websites:

1.) Project Inspired (I seriously love this website!)
2.) Real Teen Faith, now the Mutiny (it’s changed, but it’s still pretty good!)
3.) Go Teen Writer’s (For all of you writer’s)
4.) http://www.Rachelcoker.wordpress.com (for you writers)
5.) http://www.paulinaczarnecki.wordpress.com (yes, YOU, Paulina :D lol)

9.) http://www.thoughtsofashieldmaiden.wordpress.com
10.) http://www.hushashleyspeaks.blogspot.com

Movies:

1.) October Baby- PG-13, but clean
2.) Courageous-PG-13, I think, but clean. It might be PG.
3.) Soul Surfer- PG
4.) Christmas Shoes-PG or G I’m not sure (not really a Christian movie, but it’s touching.)
5.) Fireproof-PG-13 (I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard it’s great

That’s all I can think of!

Change

When I was younger I would have my parents write down the words that I would say, onto paper and those would be my books. At five years old though, I had my mind made up that I was going to be a singer.

“I don’t think I’m as shy as I used to be,” I said to my mom one day as she was working in the kitchen at our old house. The kitchen was so small though, that it was like stepping into fire every time that the stove was on. I could tell that my mom was listening, so I continued. “I think that I want to start singing for people.”

I had a church girl’s voice, soft and pretty, and if I would’ve decided to stick to singing in church (which I never did have enough guts to actually do) I might have been able to keep that voice.

But I took my soft voice and tried to change it to a voice that I never would be able to master.

In fifth grade I said to my friend, “You like to write don’t you?”

She nodded. “Yup. Why?”

“I do too. We should write a book together.”

So we tried to. But way too many people were writing it together. So it didn’t work. Later again that year, my friend and I tried to write another book together, but I couldn’t relate to the things that she wanted to that time.

Growing up in church I had no desire to write about evil spirits and gory things, so we didn’t get very far in that one either.

In my fifth grade year also, I tried to sing a little bit, but it didn’t work too well. I tried out for a singing part in the play, but it didn’t work. And I was going to sing in the talent show with another friend, but soon gave up.

In sixth grade I really noticed how much I absolutely loved to write, so I wrote my first book. It ended up being only eighty-six pages, written out on wide-ruled notebook paper. I kind of gave up on singing to that year. The most that I ever sung then was when I was having secret contest (whether she knows it or not) with a girl from my class, when the class would sometimes sing at the end of the day. I did sing a trio that year also, but it didn’t give me the same thrill as I had when I finished that book.

The summer before seventh grade I didn’t write as much, because I had writer’s block.

A couple of weeks into seventh grade I became a born-again Christian. I also started to rewrite my first book. I don’t remember when I finished it, but I finished it in enough time to write my second book around the end of the school year. I also get to sing with the ministry team at my school now, which is fun because it’s not my life, but it gives me something to do, quietly in the background.

Now this summer I’m happy.  I’m writing four books. One about a fifteen-year-old spy, who’s dad was drafted off to war, and how she handles everything that life throws at her. Another titled Sunshine Through Rain. That one is about an abused girl who doesn’t think that God would ever except her for who she is. The third one is called Mirror Image. It’s about these two girls, one from almost a hundred years ago, and one from modern day, accidently switch places. The last one is about a conservative Christian family who lives in a day where Christianity is illegal. I also have an awesome writing partner named Rebekah. We write a lot together and love to talk about plots and characters.

I’m also happy though, because of my friends. Every single one of them, from the ones who live a mile away, and the ones who live 2,000 miles away. I’m happy because of my faith. I’m happy because of my family. And believe me. The list could go on and on.
